Holiday in Salento
Rich in history and tradition, the best things about Salento are its hospitality, the magical atmosphere, the crystalline sea, and the dream-like beaches.
Sun, Nature and Relaxation
To relax you can sunbathe by the pool, read a good book in any corner or the forest, or play on the lawn with your family.
Elegant Style
The rooms are furnished in Mediterranean style: arches, wrought iron, brick tile floors, stone fireplaces, and solid wood doors and window frames.
Bosco di Mudonato Farmhouse
On the estate, an ancient fortified farmhouse (or masseria) from the XVI century offers accommodation in three different apartments. The apartments are located in what were once the stables of Castello di Mudonato and have been meticulously restructured while preserving the original barrel and cross vault ceilings. The Masseria also offers accommodations in large and comfortable rooms with private bathrooms.
In the courtyard you will find a well-cured lawn dotted with tables, chairs, loungers, and parasols which offer the possibility to dine al fresco or just relax and take in some sun.
At 600 metres from the Masseria, the estate's main home offers another 6 rooms and a separate apartment by the pool. The Mediterranean-style main living quarters feature an arched portico, wrought iron, brick-tile floors, stone fireplaces, and solid wood furniture. The main house is a two level home surrounded by woods and completely enclosed by a dry stone wall. A long, majestic, olive-tree-lined road leads up to the main house entrance.
The Estate
7,000 century-old olive trees with a specialized irrigation system cover the flat plains of the estate, which stretch to approximately 40 hectares. Olive harvest begins in the autumn months.
Throughout the year it is possible to assist with the pruning, seeding, and harvesting of the trees, and also the care of goat and sheep herds that the graze the land.
Stretches of olive trees, are interrupted only typical Mediterranean shrubs, and fenced by dry stone walls of which remnants date back to the Cretan art of stone work. Gnarled and century-old olive trees surround the white-walled masseria. It is a landscape full of simple contrasts: stone and grass, trees and rocks, blinding sun and cool green.
The Forest
The forest in the center of the estate is part of a natural reserve and protected landscape. Oak, holly oak and Mediterranean shrubs mix to create thick vegetation and offer marvelously cool shade on warm summer days.
There is time to take walks to discover wild mushrooms, asparagus, blackberries, wild rocket, wild chicory, and aromatic herbs. In the winter months delightful cyclamen, or sowbreads, dot the forest floor.
Bird watching and jogging are great outdoor activities, especially in spring and autumn.
Typical local cuisine reflects the tastes and smells of what can be found in nature:
artichoke stews, vegetables harvested from the forest and wild chicory, field greens, fresh cheeses and ricotta, goat's milk, wild prickly pear, and berry jams, lamb and shepard meat skewers, legumes, durum wheat bread and orecchiette, and loads of homegrown tomatoes and grapes.
