Farm Holiday in Salento

The Bosco di Mudonato Agritourism is located in the Apulia region of Southern Italy, in the heart of Salento, only a few kilometres away from the famous Punta Prosciutto inlet. The farmhouse is at the centre of an ancient estate where centuries-old olive trees seem to extend out to the horizon in every direction, and is surrounded by towering hundred-year-old oak trees.
It is close to all of the most interesting artistic and archaeological destinations. Whitewashed walls and an open, airy Mediterranean-style architecture characterize this tree-shaded residence. A watchtower serves as a reminder that the Ionian Sea is close by and adds a pleasant seaside feeling to the farmhouse.

What To Do

The Bosco di Mudonato Agritourism is within the commune limits of Avetrana, on the border of the three Salento provinces: Taranto, Brindisi, and Lecce. From here it is possible to choose between sunbathing on the infinite sandy beaches by the crystalline sea, organizing an bicycle excursion through the tranquil and extensive countryside, or just simply wandering the many streets of the innumerable villages and towns that are only a few kilometres away from each other.

Long stretches of beach with sand dunes and Mediterranean shrubs are only a few minutes by car from the estate and offer a variety of options: Large or small coves, touristy ports, fishing villages, sand dunes, or rocky coastline.
The photographs you see on this site are of the very close by Punta Prosciutto, where the water, thanks to a special characteristic of the sand, is turquoise and crystal clear, the sand dunes are white, and you have the option of visiting either the free beaches or renting a chair at one of the beach establishments. Because the Punta Prosciutto inlet is so large there are many options of where to lay your towel.
Punta Prosciutto, like the beaches of Torre Colimena and San Pietro in Bevagna, keeps the pristine natural environment in tact. You can see the typical Mediterranean shrub vegetation growing freely on the dunes and the water is so clean that you can see fish and octopus swimming in the shallower areas.
It is also possible to visit the nature oasis Salina dei Monaci to quietly observe the protected flora and fauna, or relax on the nearby beaches.
For those wishing to take a boat ride, the Yachting Club of Santa Caterina offers various trips and also classes in sail boating and SCUBA diving.

Less than an hour from Bosco di Mudonato you can visit Lecce, where you can see breathtaking baroque architecture and take advantage of the best shopping in the area. Near Lecce you can visit the fascinating city of Otranto with its narrow streets and stairways that lead from square to square. In Gallipoli you can feast on delicious meals, including fresh fish.

The typical Salento gastronomy merits a special mention. The cuisine will tempt you with its flavours and scents that go from delicate to intense. It will be impossible to resist trying local products made with simple ingredients that are still today cultivated with the knowing hand of local farmers. Who doesn't know the famous Primitivo di Manduria wine? Primitivo is a hardy wine that can reach up to 18% alcohol. It is best drunken at room temperature and accompanied by a slice of local pecorino cheese.
The olive oil that is produced in this area of endless olive trees should be tasted also. The olive are hand picked and cold pressed to maintain their organoleptic qualities and to give us an extra virgin oil rich in nutritional value.
We have all of the ingredients for an unforgettable holiday!
